"As far back as I can remember I wanted to be an artist. I often wonder if I have achieved that goal but, after a lifetime of working at it, I am still fascinated by the process.
Nature provides my medium. Since I use found stone and found wood combined with other natural materials such as bones, coral and bark, I spend a lot of time wandering through the woods, the quarry or the stone yard. There, I find an abundance of form, color and texture that I can use to express my responses to the many aspects of the human scene.
For me, it is tremendously exciting to find a wonderful piece of stone or wood, work on it in the studio and realize that I can do more with it than I originally thought. Sometimes, the shape or grain will dictate the positioning of a limb as opposed to my original sketch. So form will generate form in the most provocative way.
My work has many diverse moods. Pieces with psychological overtones, themes of loss, denial and death, work that expresses my love of animals and a satirical, tongue in cheek look at haute couture. "
